Every year, I participate in National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo or as I call it, NaNo). If you don’t know of it, this a challenge every year in the month of November. A writer has the challenge of writing 50,000 words of a novel in a month. You can write about ANYTHING you want to, any genre, any plot, there is no limit.
This is my 7th year participating in NaNoWriMo, starting in 2009. It’s crazy that I literally started when I was 13 years old, in 8th grade. Obviously that year, I didn’t win but I made it to 30,000 words. In the past 6 years, I’ve won twice, in 2012 and 2013. I wanted desperately to win last year, but it was my first year of college and during Thanksgiving break, the power was out for three days and I lost my chance to catch up. So I’m hoping to make 2015 my third year winning!
This year, I’m making my novel a little bit different. Here’s the plot:
“Bonnie and Stevie, twin teenagers, and their best friends Aaron and Miles are part of a band called ‘Sweet Obsession’. After performing many shows in NYC and around the area, they land themselves an opening spot for resident female rock star Miss Kiss after graduating high school. At first, they think it’s going to be awesome, until Bonnie falls for the cute roadie and Stevie wonders if being a rock star is really all worth it…”
Okay, so it’s a working plot. But hey, I have a plot and this year has gone great so far! Currently, it is only day 16 out of 30 and I have over 40,000 words of my projected 50,000. I have written at least 3,000 words a day and I have no idea where this has come from. So the good news is that I will most likely win this year, which is AWESOME!
Also, you can donate HERE to NaNoWriMo. They are a wonderful organization who have helped SO MANY people become writers and love their writing, including me. The organization lives and thrives through donations, so please donate and help out these amazing people! I donated by buying a t-shirt (I never got my 2013 Winners shirt), but you can either donate by buying merchandise or just giving a donation! My fellow NaNoers appreciate anything to help this company.
